| General Overview | A powerful shape-shifter and healer, Kalian has perfected the art of hiding in plain sight. To strangers, templars, and the city guard, he appears to be a charming and outrageous flirt, somewhat irresponsible, a young man with little ambition, content to live off the generosity of his sister Tessa and her husband Ben. Kalian is occasionally seen waiting tables at Tessa and Ben's tavern, the Raven's Roost, but is just as often found drinking with ne'er-do-wells in less reputable taverns, a brothel, the alienage, or the Jader docks. To those who know him, Kalian is a serious young man, with a kind smile for those in need and a decisive response to anyone who would harm the weak or destitute. He is fiercely protective of his sister and her family, and will often help others in secret, to avoid drawing attention to himself, and to those he loves by association. He particularly avoids templars. In addition to Kalian's contacts among the marginalized population of Jader, Tessa's husband Benjamin Roatta is related to an old Orlesian noble family line that lost their fortune in 9:02 when the Orlesian occupation was forced out of Ferelden. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Although the Blight did not reach Jader directly, Kalian has witnessed first hand both the extreme cruelty of people profiting from the despair of the unfortunate, and the amazing kindness of people who choose to sacrifice their personal advantages to do the right thing. He has idealistic hopes for the world, but has developed a practical approach to all things, and centers himself on doing the best he can in the moment. Kalian is a natural leader, and although foolish and irresponsible describe his public disguise, that reputation chafes at his self image. He doesn’t need other people to think of him as a hero, he just doesn’t want them to think he’s a thoughtless jerk. |

| Personal History | 8:78 Blessed - Kalian's grandmother Mirren arrives in Jader with her nine-year-old son Armin, at the end of the Hundred Days Cough plague in Orlais. Mirren meets Yvo Winter, new proprietor of a tavern he names the Raven's Roost. 8:81 Blessed - Kalian's mother Danyssa is born in the Jader alienage 8:97 Blessed – Yvo dies of natural causes. Danyssa, an elf, begins working at the Raven's Roost tavern 9:03 Dragon – Armin convinces Danyssa to marry him. 9:05 Dragon – Kalian's sister Tessa is born 9:09 Dragon – Kalian is born 9:21 Dragon – Danyssa is murdered by a Chevalier and Armin is severely injured, in front of Kalian who is 12 years old. Kalian's magic manifests and he causes the Chevalier's death. Kalian is sent to live with his Grandmother Mirren at a remote location in the forest, to learn to control his magic. He lives and trains with Mirren for the next six years, occasionally visiting his sister and father. 9:21 Dragon - Armin’s injury resulted in him being disabled and confined to a chair with wheels, and Tessa takes over running the Tavern with his help. 9:23 Dragon - Tessa and Armin hire Benjamin Roatta to help manage the tavern. 9:27 Dragon – Kalian begins to spend more time in Jader at the age of 18, splitting his time between helping out at the tavern and returning to Mirren to continue his lessons for the next three years. 9:27 Dragon - Tessa marries Benjamin Roatta, the youngest son of an old Jader noble family that lost their fortune in 9:02 when the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden was forced out. 9:30 Dragon – At the beginning of the Fifth blight, at the age of 21, Kalian returns to live in the city. Tessa's daughter Iris is born. Ferelden refugees flood the city, bringing disease and famine to Jader. Family members urge Tessa to take her baby and go live with Mirren, but Tessa and Kalian were raised by their elven mother to support and care for their community, and Tessa will not leave. Tessa and Benjamin do everything they can to provide food to those in need whilst fending off the desperate. Kalian works tirelessly to help, using his magic surreptitiously to heal the sick and injured, and hunting for game in spite of rare but dangerous blighted creatures in the forest.
