Family
Personality & Traits
General Overview | Martin is a friendly sort, usually nice to other people unless he has a good reason to dislike them. He likes to joke around and can't resist a good pun. He is very dedicated to his job as a guardsman in Jader, and doesn't mind putting in overtime if necessary. His easy-going approach sometimes leads people to think they can fool him easily, but he is actually fairly sharp and observant. When interrogating suspects he likes to lull them into a false sense of confidence, the better for them to trip up.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Martin has a strong moral fiber and sense of duty. Sometimes this works to his detriment as he tries to do the right thing, even when it is imprudent or risky to do so. He is also a loyal friend, which could potentially puts him in a precarious position if he had to choose between duty and friendship. He is quite good with a sword but average with other weapons. |
|
Ambitions | Martin likes to think he can make a difference, which is why he took up this job as a guardsman after he left the Templar order. His ambition is to climb the hierarchy and become Captain of the guard someday.
Hobbies & Interests | Martin enjoys the following : - reading books (though he can't really afford that on a guard's salary) - hearing stories - playing darts - horse-riding - learning about foreign languages and cultures - good alcohol |
Personal History | Martin trained as a Templar and left the Order right before taking his vows. This means he was never addicted to lyrium (and never gained magic-smiting abilities) but he was taught how to handle and recognize mages, and also to recognize spells before they're cast. As a result he knows more about magic than most. This also means that he had received very good training with a shield and sword as well as heavy plates. That said, as a guard he gets the standard issue medium armour. The reason why he left the Templar order remains to this day a well-kept secret, known only to the Knight-Commander and Martin himself. He's kept ties with the order as he still has many friends among the local templars. Jader being a port city, with ties to many other nations, Martin's interest in languages can prove an asset. He's gotten a few chances to practice. All this means that he's often the one called when there is any issue involving foreigners or where liaising with the Templar order is necessary. |
