Personality & Traits
General Overview | Atria is a skilled, experienced soldier from a family of soldiers. Despite military service being her life from infancy, the shocking loss of everyone she served with at the Sacrifice of Alam left her with mental and emotional scars she still hasn't healed from. These days, she mostly keeps to the 'civilian' life, while continuing to exercise and keep her fighting skills in shape. While she's spent the last few years more or less 'hiding' by helping out at the Lighthouse and with her in-law's kids, time is slowly making her open up and be curious about the world and the people in it once more. Atria's done the odd job or three for the Tremblay clan, friends of family and so on, when violence's needed. She's publicly seen as "that Tevinter soldier" with a good head, a strong arm and the availability to get involved in a good cause. In terms of magical prowess, she's powerful. She's also hampered by the lack of a Mage Staff (hers was shattered years ago and she's never had the opportunity to replace it), leaving her having to 'work' harder at magic than she otherwise would. Mostly, she hasn't bothered. |
Strengths & Weaknesses | She has a disciplined mind, a strong body and the confidence that comes from having tested her limits repeatedly. Atria isn't panicked by danger, having faced the worst that life has to offer on the battlefield. She can speak with the voice of a commander, well practiced at receiving, giving and executing on orders despite that Tevinter accent. Being married to a local girl for years also gives her a reluctant degree of public acceptance at being in Jader despite her nationality. Atria is also prone to night terrors. To moments where her senses seem to shut down. The sight of the Qunari steals her breath away. She's also still fundamentally a foreigner, one well suited by the relative isolation of tending a lighthouse...perhaps too well suited. Atria's instincts are to isolate herself and, while her adoptive family knows how to work past it, newly made friends and acquaintances sometimes have to work at it to get her out of her shell. |
Ambitions | Don't ruin the happy ending she never deserved. Make sure her in-laws grow up right. Perhaps someday teach students the right way to wage war (and come back alive). While it hasn't occurred to her to try finding other Mages, Atria feels pity for the Southern Circles and the way they torture their students. The notion of teaching or helping other Mages will appeal if it comes up. |
Hobbies & Interests | She exercises religiously first thing in the morning. Her in-laws are charming, their kids adorable, and raising children outside of Tevinter is surprisingly fun! Atria is secretly fascinated by the art of making stained glass. She's set up a small workshop in a corner of the Lighthouse. Her efforts are still amateur but promising, and she hopes to come across someone who can teach her more. |
Personal History | 8:99 Dragon - Atria is born in the city of Qarinus, in the Tevinter Imperium. Born into a Soporati family of warriors, pledged to House Amladaris, who'd given generations of their sons to fight the Qunari scourge. 9:07 Dragon - Her surprisingly happy childhood is interrupted by the discovery that she has magical talent. She's immediately 'fostered' in House Amladaris, with her future being planned for with her family eager to join the ranks of the Praetari. 9:12 Dragon - The Qunari navy launches a massive invasion of the Tevinter Imperium, with her own city of Qarinus being directly sieged due to its strategic importance. When an equally massive counteroffensive is launched, driving the ox men off Tevinter shores, Atria's fervent passion to join the military is confirmed. 9:16 Dragon - Tired of a family unwilling to let a woman risk her Mage blood in battle, Atria sneaks onboard a ship bound for Seheron, where she joins up with a cousin's unit just as the Qunari attack. Despite her youth and the horrors of her first battle, Atria performs well, leading to her enlistment under the great Battlemage Mathana Amladaris. 9:18 Dragon - Atria is reluctantly married to Aetius Amladaris, binding the Jain family's fortunes permanently. The disinterested academic prefers his study of history (and the occasional male apprentice) to his rather fierce, warlike wife. In this, both become perfectly content to see each other only as often as necessary to maintain appearances and produce the two children Atria bears, Aquinea and Iovita. 9:27 Dragon - The Sacrifice of Alam results in the shattering of Atria's Mage staff as well as the near total destruction of her regiment, leaving her one of three survivors out of a thousand. Ordered to evacuate back to Minrathous, Atria simply leaves and returns home to the newly renamed city of Ventus. Finding her glory-obsessed family preoccupied with her self-absorbed magically gifted children, having written her off as dead, Atria quits Tevinter entirely. 9:28 Dragon - Passing through Jader on her way to Ferelden, Atria meets Adrienne Tremblay whose family serves the city as the Lighthouse Keepers. The two strike up a friendship followed by a romance. 9:29 Dragon - Atria and Adrienne marry. Atria begins to learn the Lighthouse Keeper's duties while she and her wife help Adrienne's younger sister Emma and older brother Thomas's families with their children. 9:30 Dragon - When Ferelden refugees flood Jader in the wake of the Fifth Blight, the Tremblay's fill the expansively sized Lighthouse as overfill housing. 9:34 Dragon - Present |

Training and Experience | Mage Specialty: Battlemage - Primal, Entropy, Force Warrior Specialty: Two-Handed Champion - Spear A decade of active military service shows in Atria's expertise in wielding magic in battle, as well as her general head for strategy, tactics and physical combat. She's a capable fighter with sword and spear, generally preferring the latter when expecting trouble. |
