Physical Description | Skeld is a bear of a man, standing over a head and a half taller than most men. Broad shouldered and heavily muscled, he is covered in tattoos not commonly seen in Orlais or Ferelden. Many Fereldens have mistaken the tattoos (though, notably, not the man) for a form of those worn by the dalish, but this resemblance is superficial as the tattoos more resemble knots, braids and (mostly) runic circles than vines and animals, and are far more extensive on his body than any elf, completely covering both arms from the back of his hands to his shoulders. However, facial tattoos are rare enough outside of the casteless of the dwarves and the Dalish that many assume some connection with one or the other. On account of his sheer size, Skeld has on occasion been mistaken for an Avvar, or even a hornless Qunari (though only by those who have never actually seen a qunari). His body is covered in scars from countless battles, though they just seem to blend in with his tattoos for the most part. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Skeld is a fighter; many have tried to peer more deeply into his psyche and history to learn what he is beyond this, but many have also given up and taken up drinking with the giant in order to tolerrate the depths of Skeld's shallowness. Skeld is quick to laugh, and quick to fight, with little area in between. He is known to most big city guards outfits as a good fighter and a bit of a wildcard, as like to help the guards keep order as be throwing the tables about the tavern. Sometimes, both in the same night. Sometimes, even in the same fight. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | + Very Strong + Bushcraft and Survival + Unarmed combat + High Endurance + Quick reflexes - Berserker Rage when angered - Unsubtle - Dishonest - Loud - Antagonistic to his friends (mostly in good humour) - Antagonistic to his enemies (mostly not). |
|
Ambitions | Were you to ask Skeld, he would tell you a hundred and more ambitions; to climb the highest peaks of the Anders, to swim with sea monsters and to bed a princess. These are all lies. |
|
Hobbies & Interests | Drinking, Fighting, Women, Lying, Story telling, Hunting. Skeld enjoys testing himself against other worth candidates to see who's stronger, who's the better aim with an axe, etc. Outside of this and the like, his only real hobbhy appears to be the occasional drawing of seemingly non-sensical runic scripts like those in his tattoos, which resemble nothing in thedas besides the runes used in enchantment, though those verse in such things point out it is a different iconographic alphabet. |
Personal History | Skeld’s personal history is a matter of some debate. it is not that Skeld does not talk about his past; far from it. In fact it is that he speaks of too many pasts. Skeld is adept at weaving a story to capture the interest of those around him, and many a Tavern have been regaled by his stories of battle, endurance, thrilling heroics and strength. But for every Tavern, the story changes; sometimes a little, sometimes entirely. Skeld is the ultimate unreliable narrator; he speaks of battles that never were, places he’s not like to have been (if they even exist), and questions to his own upbringing range from 'the favored son of a foreign noble seeking revenge for a fallen house' to 'an orphan who clawed his way from the gutter to the front lines'. Anyone who has doubted the validity of any of these stories, at least out loud, has lived to regret it (or not, as the case may be), but any who have witnessed Skeld in battle do not doubt his strength or courage, deciding to remark that within each story Skeld spins, there is at least a grain of truth as to his ability on the battlefield. The history that can be corroborated is similarly confusing. Skeld is a wanted man in Laysh from almost two decades ago; from Laysh, he wandered the Anderfels, fighting darkspawn and working as a caravan guard, which took him from the anderfels to Cumberland, Rivain and Tevinter (briefly - his antics were less well received in the Imperium, particularly after an unfortunate axe throwing incident), after which he came south by boat and worked as a mercenary for a time. With each of these roles, there are significant gaps in the story with no trail, and Skeld’s history with Laysh appears seemingly from no where, with no one in the town aware of where the man came from or why he was in the most remote port in the country. Similarly, Skeld’s official past from before Laysh – his childhood, upbringing, family, everything, is marked as a blank on any document that has ever been compiled by spymasters and law officials alike. Despite the mysterious nature to his past, Skeld does not appear to have a particular direction or goal in mind beyond the next fight, and appears to drift from place to place, never staying too long. |

Training and Experience | Skeld is adept with many weapons but prefers the heavy battle axe. He carries three - two larger than normal bearded hand axes (hanging from his belt on either hip, ornately engraved with runes and symbols in the hilt) and a single, broad headed two handed battle axe (strapped to his back, with its haft similarly engraved), though he has also used swords, shields and spears in the past. He has been known to contest against any local warriors of renown wherever he might be, in both friendly and lethal combat, and contests of strength, but what formal training he has had is a mystery. Some have recognised elements of his combat style as Avvar in nature, though others have remarked he fights like a dwarf (albeit a very large one). For his part, Skeld only says he picked things up "here and there". Skeld is also well versed in trap making, bushcraft and survival techniques. |
