Personality & Traits

General Overview Like most folk, Vasil is a creature of his upbringing. His only known family was his older brother who had to raise him, his lone authority figure. Until his brother's violent death, the two of them scrounged to live from day to day in the poor sections of the city. The back alleys, the docks, the taverns and slums were their homes if you could call it that.
Morality? Well, basically whatever goes to survive. Vasil started stealing from an early age, the life of a thief is all he knows, and frankly he has gotten quite good at it. Lying, cheating, scheming, and even resorting to violence if he has to, it's all about survival.
Strengths & Weaknesses What is he good at? Well, he's got the advantage of youth. He's led a tough life and people often underestimate him on first sight. Yes, he's scrawny looking but he's stronger than he looks. He's very agile, fast on his feet, can climb with the best of them. He is also a fine swimmer, he learned early that when being chased if you can dive into water and swim away, almost no one is going to continue pursuing you in the water. He can pick locks, break into places supposedly safe from his sort. He's street smart, he knows the ins and outs of the city.
Vasil is also very daring and quite brave, sometimes too much so. He has not always been alone but can be a loyal member of a heist or a gang. Thus far he hasn't betraying anyone yet.
But course he has plenty of weaknesses too. Feats of strength are beyond him. He can neither read nor write. His only weapon experience has been with his long dagger. He's never handled a bow or even a crossbow. His whole experience, life has been within the boundaries of the city, he has never ventured out onto the various roads or stepped onto the deck of a ship. He knows little of the vast world out there except from what tales he might have heard and even he realizes, such information may well not be reliable.
The local authorities have had him before a judge more than once and he's spent time in jails on occasion. In fact he has been warned the next time he is caught stealing, they will cut off both his hands. Most folk would regard him as a mere gutter snipe.
Ambitions When one lives this sort of life, your ambitions are not that lofty. Daily survival is what one strives to accomplish. But there are times of course when Vasil dreams of striking it rich some day. Mayhaps living in a fine house with fashionable clothing, regular meals, and servants to wait on him. However the realist in him knows that will most likely never happen.
He's been of that age now since a young teen that he has long been interested in girls, now women. Him marrying he cannot ever see happen but living with a life long love interest. Yes, he would like that. Again sadly unlikely.
Hobbies & Interests No actual hobbies, not his kind. He's too busy trying to survive. However he does like games of chance though seldom has money to engage in them. When he can get his hands on any, beer, ale, mead, or even wine it is much enjoyed. He tends to overdo it then and end up drunk sometimes to the point of being unconscious. He will also, on occasion, fight for money with an audience betting on the match and hopefully being entertained. The bouts have seen him matched against someone close in size though. He's not a fool. In such fisticuffs, he's actually pretty good at it.

Personal History Vasil is unsure about his birthplace, has no idea as to who his parents were, his older brother had to care for him as they struggled in the streets of the only place he has ever known, the city. It was and still is a hard life. He has been a member of more than one street gang but they tend to rise and fall, especially if they get too successful, the city watch would crush them.
Vasil was thirteen when Davaris was killed. He had almost been over an rich estate wall when one of the guards sent a crossbow bolt into the middle of his back. Even with that grave wound, he was still alive when another guard lopped his head off to be fitted onto a spike by the front gate, a dire warning to any trying to steal from there.
Not that much later, Vasil caught the guard who had beheaded Davaris by surprise. The man was drunk and staggering thru an alley. Vasil came at him from behind and, using a brick held with both hands, brought it down with a dull thunk at the back of the man's skull. Down he went and Vasil knelt next to the victim smashing the brick down again and again til he was absolutely certain the fellow was quite dead.
Some in the city would no doubt call that 'murder' but to Vasil it had been 'revenge'.
Just recently he and his latest partners had been caught and dragged before a local judge. One of them was ordered hanged, the other given a savage whipping in public. For whatever reason Vasil was let off with a warning next time that his punishment would be much more severe. Of course, Vasil promised that he would never do such things again. The probably disappointed guards did give him a good going over with their fists before releasing him.

Yes, such was life as a thief.
Training and Experience His weapon training has been minimal other than experiencing it first hand. His brother first taught him the basics and usefulness of a good blade. One gang he ran with til the authorities crushed it had an ex-soldier in it who was willing to teach him certain tricks to use if caught up in a fight using deadly weapons. That was it though.

He has been in a few knife fights already. He sports a few scars from them but he had always came out on top. Less than two years ago, he killed another thief battling over some loot. He was a bit surprised how little it bothered him, the two had been long rivals.
