Dragon Age Legacy Rules and Expectations

The TL;DR:
>Respect other players and their characters.
>Participate. Let the group know if you need to take a leave of absence.
>Speak up if you have an idea or suggestion, or need help, or feel uncomfortable with any aspect of the story or group.

The Dragon Age Legacy group is inclusive of black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), women, men, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, religious minorities, disabled persons, and all marginalized people.

Plan to respond to tags and post regularly

Players are generally expected to respond to tags within about three or four days. Please let the group know if you need more time. It might also work out to create an alternative, slower, story thread.

Reliably answering tags and regularly adding to posts keeps your character in the action, keeps the story moving, supports other players, and encourages other players to invite you to participate in more joint posts.

Real life happens, and If you must be absent from the game, be sure to notify the other players via a message on the DAL discord to announce your leave of absence (LOA). If your character is holding up an important plot post, you can designate another player or the GM to move them along.

Respect other players and their characters

We write in third person, past tense. Please check your writing for typos and grammar.

Do not change another player’s entry in a post.

Do not write anything happening to another player’s character without the other player’s consent and participation.

Do not add major events to the plot (for example, burning down the barn where the characters are sleeping) without the GM’s permission.

In general, our characters are working together toward a common quest goal. Overpowered characters (for example, able to slaughter twenty darkspawn alone without injury or fatigue), drag down the group roleplay. Characters experiencing limitations and consequences make the story interesting.

Many character background/race/class combinations evoke tension, such as templar/mage. Each character should have sufficient motivation to join and complete the quest even when paired with a character they despise.

Communication

Never be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t know what to do next, or if you want to start a new joint post and you aren’t sure what’s going on or who’s available, ask in the discord server.

If you find that a joint post takes a turn that makes you uncomfortable, speak up. Contact the other player(s) via discord or an OOC comment in the JP identifying the part that feels wrong. Or direct message or email the GM who can bring it up with the other player(s).

If you have an idea about a direction the story should go, or anything else you want to discuss with other players, please share!

Anti-Harassment Policy

Dragon Age Legacy is a community of writers creating a collaborative narrative together, that strives to be inclusive of people of color, women, men, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, religious minorities, disabled persons, and all marginalized people. It is common for players to develop friendships and interact with one another outside of Dragon Age Legacy via social media, private email, in person, etc. These relationships are usually a positive experience for everyone involved.

The GM takes harassment very seriously, and will ensure that participation in Dragon Age Legacy never leads to a player feeling unsafe or attacked.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
> Pressuring another player into writing their character into an in-character relationship.
> Engaging in unwanted advances out of character.
> Pressuring another player into revealing personal information, sharing private photos, or sexting.
> Using instant/direct message apps like discord, google hangouts, facebook messenger, etc. to inflict a barrage of messages on another player to argue, harass, or intimidate.
> Doxing - publishing or sharing private information including in-real-life social media accounts
> Stalking.
In general, don’t say anything via digital format that you wouldn’t say face-to-face. Remember that nothing that happens on the internet is really anonymous.

If a Dragon Age Legacy player feels that they have been harassed, they should contact the GM or another trusted player. Depending on the severity of the complaint, the result could range from a talk with the persons involved, to suspension or expulsion of a player who has engaged in harassing behavior.

In the unlikely event of strong disagreements regarding any aspect of the game, players are expected to remain civil in all discussions.

RPG Rating
2 - Language: Swearing and mature language is permitted, but will usually be consistent with the Dragon Age setting (example: Maker’s breath! Maferath’s balls!) and the character’s background.
2 - Sex: Sexual content is permitted, with limitations. Consensual content may be described and fade to black is typical. If described in detail, the post must have a warning tag and the post/scene should progress the plot and/or develop the characters.
2 - Violence: Canon-typical violence is permitted.

Players must confirm they are old enough to play the Dragon Age games in their country of residence. The games are rated 17+ Mature in the USA, and 18 in the Pegi (Pan-European Game Information) system. In general, player-characters will be adults. A recurring NPC closely connected to a player-character (such as a family member) may be a child.
