On Richelieu's ship, Cainan enquired about Richelieu's crew – people Cainan had been close friends with. Jaslyn asked what Richelieu knew about the missing people, and an elf crewmember named Julana in particular. Richelieu confessed he'd been running smuggling contracts, and his ship had been taken over by a carta criminal named Gerlach Robertson. A crewmember found a suspicious ledger, and Gerlach got rid of him and killed Julana, then replaced the rest of his crew. Jaslyn made Richelieu tell them the location of the mine. Wanting nothing to do with Richelieu's ill-gotten gains, Cainan tossed his coin purse full of coin won playing cards with Richelieu on his desk. Cainan and Jaslyn left the ship.

Martin, Elinowy, and Kalian arrived at the mining camp in mine-operator Roxa's wagon driven by Roxa's qunari bodyguard Gangue, along with Rhiannon and her four guards on horseback. Roxa took them on a tour of the above-ground camp, then Roxa and Rhiannon adjourned to Roxa's office to negotiate a contract to transport ore from the mine. Meanwhile Gangue took Martin, Elinowy, and Kalian on the lift down to the mine entrance.

Once in the mine, guards tossed pickaxes and shovels to Martin, Elinowy, and Kalian. When Martin asked about pay, a guard unconvincingly assured them they would be paid 'at the end.' It was soon evident that leaving the mine was not an option for workers. They met Costard, who wrote the note to his fiancé on the back of the flyer-clue. Costard showed them what to do and the three set to work chipping silverite ore and shoveling it into baskets. An elf and Orla (sister of Isla whom they met in the refugee camp) were collecting baskets of ore when Orla collapsed. Martin, Kalian, and Elinowy took Orla to the 'infirmary.'
